The Hands of Fish

25 June 2012

Well back from the Murrayfield hospital and only slightly more forward with the situation.

Dupytrens in both hands, the right only slightly, the left far more advanced and beyond repairs with enzyme or steroid injections. What’s required is a full blown op under general anesthetic to remove all skin from little finger down to below knuckle joint, clean the growths from the tendons and replace skin with plastic surgery from my forearm. Decided it’s not bad enough yet so holding off for now as it’s 6 weeks recovery and kerching if I go private in order to fit in my work windows.Carpal tunnel syndrome not confirmed so now have to wear glove splints that turn my hands into seal flippers or small baseball mitts to see if they alleviate the condition and stop my hands “dying off” through the bad circulation or nerve constrictions.
They’re not sexy!

Scheduled for full nerve examination to see if the root cause is my neck and then decide on further action in a few weeks.

I asked my dad if anyone else in the family had the condition last week and he said no. Then he said I’ve just got this and showed me two huge raised lumps in the centre of his palm. Yes dad! That’s it!

So thanks Dad for the Dupytrens syndrome, the crumbling knees, the excessive ear wax and the hairstyle!

At least a genetic mix with German stock means Taz may get of lightly!
