Bad sleep, sore back in my tight single bed and my head full of the documentary last night. Finished after midnight, couldn’t concenrate anymore after hours editing the Radio 3 interview which has wiped out all comers including the one we wanted to open the movie with. It’s a brilliant conversation with Piotr K that covers all the bases including the Sopot “to camera” one that was the previous main tread. Now we have to refine it and cut it into “user friendly” chunks and work out how to place them.It means rewriting the start but the substance is far more weighty and the filming more “sophisticated”.Dropping “State of Mind ” footage in today when it arives hopefully with more 3rd party contributions from local tv stations that filmed us in various cities.
Another epic day ahead but Marek here to oil the translations although “Magic” and I have found a system.
News from the Western Front that Field Marshal Kimsey is conquering the “Field of Crows” album and in his own words, “Moving Targets…… frigging great, Lost Plot & Mix 2 of Zoo. I am liking the 2nd mixes of all the songs…… I am really getting into these songs and I am getting excellent results. I kid you not!”
For the first in a long time this studio work feels like a “real job”.
Now hanging about with the boys at the coffee machine 3m away talking football at break.
Wednesday
Avalanche this afternoon as the mountain started to fall into a new shape and expose itself. Rattled off the first sequences, identified the chunks and started to glue and fill. The Radio 3 interview with Piotr K is split up and my take on myself interspersed with “Choc Frogs”, “State of Mind” and “Fugazi” from Warsaw together with enough comedy to break it all up into something tantalising and entertaining.
Still a long way to go and a lot of sound and picture filtering and cleaning but the back is broken on this project as long as we can obtain nescessary minor permissions that would be churlish and obstructive if refused.
It’s a fascinating documentary if I say so myself and it’s weird to see myself from another perspective.

11.5 hours on sentry duty.Big Macs for lunch and dinner,need a beard trim before tomorrow’s added footage to be filmed.Moving apace

Permissions asked for regarding relevant footage, dealing with copyright issues with Universal on back catalogue albums in UK and EMI publishing re solo catalogue. Where’s the clones when you need them?

Thursday-
once more into the breach! We can see the light at the end of the projector now!
Still waiting on 3rd party footage to insert but we know where it’s needed.
The film from Sopot is a nightmare tracking down as it appears no one is taking the responsibility to give us the ok and send it down.It’s a great show on a big stage with great lighting to about 800 very appreciative Fishheads.As the last show we let go in the performance and it’s a fine farewell to the Polish tour.
Frustrating indeed.
Deep sleep and we took an extra hour this morning to recuparate and gather energies for the big push.
Now back into the coalmine in Zabrze and a “Pilgrims Address” to deal with the “political” section with mug of Nescafe and tinned milk.

An hour to film 2 minutes of footage for the opening sequence. First attempt perfect intro but cameraman didn’t listen to direction and framed shot wrong.Second another good audio take but another camera fuck up. Third, endless tongue twisted audio and decent camera shot.Fourth attempt after numerous takes something that’s useable. Now we see if it works as there’s disagreement in the camp on validity. I’m fast running out of time.We need a dynamic opening sequence.
Still a lot to do on the main body and “Magic” has a shitload of work to do after I leave which will mean his “Monsterworld” vegetable patch may be a neglected wilderness in the next weeks.
Rest of afternoon we’ve been acheiving a lot with the back third of the movie.Some chunks need pruning and I have to trust that all will be delivered.
Still another 5 hours to go today.Late night and early wake up and drive in the Flintstones clown carrier in the dawn and on the cards.
