Kitchen Doors of Perception

28 March 2012

Difficult day that ended with minor victories. Splicing the threads of the kitchen design as I move in the end game is frustrating and today seemed a slow day as hinges on cupboard doors hiding the “whites” got in the way of washing powder trays and dishwasher doors. The space is tight and a decision to go with “piano hinges” meant a lot of adjustments and literally screwing around.

Units have doors and ready for filling.Went to bed just after midnight last night and woke up at 1.30am panicking I’d forgotten to put drawers in the design. I had to go through and check. I had but couldn’t remember the configuration. By that time I was wide awake and sat there on a stool in the kitchen drinking Redbush tea working out where things would go.Every time I was nearly satisfied with my computation I’d head to bed and on the way through the “bunker” to bed I’d notice something else that needed a place to go and have another thought surge that demanded more Redbush and contemplation on my own in my dressing gown on the stool. As is the norm you never seem to find enough space to put things and I’d thought I had it all covered.
Eventually the Zed window opened to escape but I still lay in bed stacking tins in my mind rather than counting sheep.

Stevie the electrician is putting in a late shift so we shared fish suppers outside in the gathering dusk and talked families, homes and histories. He’s catching up on the fitters and with the main kitchen door to the outside going in tomorrow and a new Velux window going in the “old” kitchen space is crying out for the plasterer this weekend.

Davey the TV engineer threaded the wires to the new TV area and set up a SKY HD box with old cabling from a previous set up in Tara’s room hijacked and the router about to be fitted with a switching panel to give me broadband for the Smart TV.

I want to see the new window slapped through as that will be the final major addition to the new space.Hopefully this could happen at the weekend.

Meanwhile in Fish world I had legal issues to deal with and finally it’s been announced the “Internal Exiles” and “Songs From The Mirror” albums re released on a “third party” label on 20th February have been withdrawn from sale on Amazon and beyond. It’s only been 3 weeks since I notified the parties concerned! Now the discussion on compensation begins. I am totally pissed off as I spent the last 2 years emptying the market of copies and creating demand in preparation for my new re issues coming out later in the year. This has screwed up the release strategy as I wanted “Exile” out with “Field of Crows”, the 2 Chris Kimsey albums early on in the campaign.

Accountants calls and publishing computations were also instigated and a problem I thought was a major one is now a lot more simple to deal with.

I listened to the entire Sunday evening performance from the Studio recordings again and it looks like apart from a few minor repairs there are only 2 songs that may not make the grade.
And even they might be save-able.It all sounds so intimate and feel like I may have a gem here.

It’s tough listening with the kitchen platoon at work but they seem to enjoy the music and I kept them up with CR coffee today! 🙂
It turns out Stevie’s Mum was a huge Marillion fan so an autographed vinyl of “Script” was duly gifted! 🙂

Kept on missing my daughter today between time differences, her busy work schedule in Dubai and a laptop with Skype that falls asleep at inopportune moments and takes ages to wake up.It’s frustrating for both of us.

I did have a wonderful half an hour walking round the garden with Mac checking out the status of all the trees in the orchard.Seeing so many in bud and well establishing themselves since the orchards inception back in 2009 was a high. I’ve only lost 3 tress out of around 40 odd across the 2 hard winters and we plan to undergo a major pruning campaign in the summer and a reworking of the espallier apple hedge later in the year.
The greenhouse is packed with vegetables and flowers and it looks like we could run out of space in the raised beds and have to resort to a host of containers to take the rest of the plants he’s raised from seed.

Amazingly my black tulips are already coming into flower and the sound of the frogs in the Japanese garden while I work in the dim light of the control room reminds me we are on the edge of Spring.

Another kaleidescope of a day.
