Quarrying

16 April 2013

Racked up another bank of lyric yesterday and Foss has got the framework of “The Leaving” in a recognisable shape that will fit the “High Wood” suite jigsaw perfectly and complete a picture.

This is the longest suite of songs around a subject I’ve ever been involved with and at around 30 mins it’s only 15 or so short of an album in itself going by 33rpm vinyl days!

We won’t be playing this song or “High Wood” on the UK tour as they’re not in sufficient shape to take them into full band rehearsals this week as they need further time spent on them that we can’t afford at present. “Crucifix Corner”, “Thistle Alley” and “The Gathering” will be available for the set lists.

The lyrics for these should be finished in the next couple of weeks as I’m concentrating on the words for “The Great Unravelling” this week when Robin and Steve are here to polish the writing on the 9 songs we will have to rehearse together.

“Great Unravelling” is the only one that needs some extra inputs and arrangement. The others are virtually complete, lyric and all!

A respite today so I focused on the business side of my job, the part I try my best to avoid and an intrusion when writing. Today was a good day in the publishing quarry and I shifted a couple of big rocks and worked out a way to move another. It’s a restructuring I’ve needed to put in place for a long while and it’s taken until now to push the buttons and set it all in motion. With the digital age it requires a lot more form filling and registrations to make sure you find the income due you from radio/TV airplays and online transmissions. It’s supposed to make it simple to collect internationally but it’s a brain numbing exercise going through it all.

John Reid and I made some decisions about the download site and the shop in general and he is currently bolting things together to make it happen in the very near future. It’ll be a very new look shop with some extra features you’ll like ! 🙂

We are going to be able to take Paypal payments and BACS transfers for the first time so hopefully that will help people out there who don’t have credit cards and who want to order albums or merch.

This is all part of the modernisation and revamping that I’ve initiated over the last year and John is doing a fine job making the web site professional, entertaining, engaging and informative as I move into the next major phase of the album as we rehearse and get ready to take it out on the road.

But for now I am waiting on a Fairy Tale Creature to arrive to set up the gear for rehearsals ! 🙂
