Picked first blueberries and raspberries out the fruit cage today. BB’s are 3 times the size of the Tesco’s offerings. Now porridge for breakfast with said fruit and honey.
Parents popped up for coffee this morning and we engaged in a bartering play. They brought an Anderson’s mince pie to the table and I filled a bag of mixed lettuces and rocket straight out the garden. Fair trading!
Mince pie will have to wait as I still have the other half of duck tonight after no show from dinner guest.Sat and watched the Olympics closing ceremony on my own and had a fun time. Was more like Live Aid mixed with a touch of hallucinogenic theatre and a pagan festival. In no particular order-The “Who” my favs with perfect song choices but thought original lyric on “Baba” was “it’s a teenage wasteland” not “no more teenage wasteland”? I stand for correction? The “Tommy” section was sheer brilliance! 🙂
Never thought I’d say it but “Spice Girls” were great value and fitted in perfectly. Loved the bit where Victoria Beckham had to grab the rails on the taxi roof as she got caught out by an early move off. They did stir it up though!
Brian May’s solo into “We Will Rock You” genius and the walk over to RT with Jessie J approaching from the opposite side of the stadium with the never ending yellow dress tail was spectacular!
Good chops as well that lass!
Annie Lennox went for gold but for me didn’t qualify. The production was brilliant but bigger than the performance and the song (personally would have preferred “Sweet Dreams”!).
Russell Brand I could have done without but the magical stage production around him was pure Ken Kesey.
“Elbow” terrific and perfect match, moving performance, “The Muse” on the ball, wanted to see Bowie walk on during the fashion parade, loved the Freddie contribution and was really glad Lennon was there in spirit, thought Eric Idle was totally awesome within all the theatrics which he just sailed on and never got lost in, would have liked to have seen the Gallagher’s together rather than Liam’s solo statement on the double kick drums, Kate Bush would have been welcomed, Kaisers pretty good and got a kick from the stage entrance on the mopeds (thought at that point they had overlooked “The Who”), “Waterloo Sunset” fitting, “Take That” hi end pro and worked but didn’t do anything for me as did the rap and dance section. Not my taste but crowd lapped it up and the lighting was superb as it was throughout the night.
The ballet was breathtaking and together with the flame taking centre stage for the finale really made me think of pagan ceremonies from the island’s past history.
All in all an epic production and my hat is well and truly off to all involved as I never thought when it started that I would be so blown away not only by the final show but the Olympics generally.
I had a feel good factor last night and like the rest of us I hope it lasts a while longer.
Now back to my duties.
Wall to whitewash if weather steadies, DVD from studio sessions to watch, letters to write, phone calls to make on a kaleidescope of topics, things to chase, things to nail down.
Definitely not bored by any means and feel a bit like Eric Idle was last night, avoiding the overwhelming and riding colorfully and with intent and purpose on top of a myriad of potential screw ups on a seemingly never ending but exciting solo performance at the heart of a crowd.
First up porridge for Daddy Bear. Give me the honey! 🙂
