Daleks, Merch and Convention

4 October 2012

The “Daleks” are as pointed out extractor fans from the flat roof at the back of the house. They were used when it was a fully functioning commercial studio to move fresh air around the building and into the booths on the North side of the building.

They had brick surrounds as when we opened up the place to record “Internal Exile” with Chris Kimsey producing we kept on hearing low range hums that we couldn’t identify.Turned out it was the wind blowing under the unit’s cowling so we made low brick structures around them.It did the trick.Ugly things and with the fans all now redundant and a new felt being laid I decided to get rid of them all.

Been a bit loud in recent days for Gavin and Steve as their rooms are directly below where the guys were working. Got them up early for rehearsals though:-)

Today we finished of “Crucifix Corner” and it sounds really powerful. Lyric work for me tonight.

Started to construct “The Other Side Of Me” and have it ready for tomorrow’s run throughs. I feel a lot better about the new material than I did last week. Obviously having a full band in situ makes it a hell of a lot easier to write.

This gives us 4 new songs for the convention at Leamington on the 20th and 21st.

Saturday will be run throughs of the new songs and working on the “13th Star” material we intend to play with Steve before he goes home and Gavin Dickie comes in for his rehearsals on the other tracks.

A grueling 3 weeks for us all with a lot to learn.

Dave Barras came down to film the rehearsals to day and recorded the version so far of “Crucifix Corner”. This will be up on the fishheadsclub.com website on the convention weekend.
He handed me in his edits of the Plovdiv material and this together with the May Electric material will also be available through the new website.

The new T shirts will be up on the fish-thecompany.com web site tomorrow together with details on the Fishheads Club live double DVD which will be available for advance ordering (due here in 2 weeks).

There will also be info about the convention tickets for single days that are now being made available and news about the itinerary for the weekend.

Coffee arrived from Costa Rica today so we are refuelled.
Waiting on new eco pond pump I ordered yesterday and looking forward to having the Peter Pan pond fully stocked again next year.

The garden is a regal mess, the geese are crowding out the skies in between 3 returning circling buzzards over the nearby shelter belt of pines.

I dug up a large carrot yesterday which had about 5 wasps burrowing into it. Never ever seen that before.

“The Weirding”, next song up for a visit from the band, comes to mind.
